And what are the differences between paid and free versions? The Spotify service is not separate from this issue; if you have the same question about this app, we will discuss this further. Spotify Algorithmic Playlists

You might have heard a lot about Spotify’s algorithms and how they can suggest new songs based on your music interests.

My research on this relationship led me to gather some information, I would like to share with you.

According to my findings from Spotify web site, Spotify has five popular Algorithmic Playlists.

Spotify’s algorithm automatically creates these playlists for each user.

Based on complex AI coding, Spotify’s algorithms analyzes hundreds of millions of listeners’ listening habits. It examines historic listening behavior and makes comparisons and connections to predict what individual listeners will want to hear in the future.

If you don’t like Spotify to track your music taste as a Spotify user, you can listen to your desired music in a private session on Spotify. In a Private Session, the music you listen to will not affect your music recommendations.

To change Spotify music recommendation, you can break the Spotify algorithm by exploring new genres and bands and checking out new playlists; by listening to music that is not the same as your music habit, you send this signal to the Spotify algorithm that your music taste is changed and it will try to recommend new music according to your new taste.

How to Get on Spotify Algorithmic Playlists

The algorithmic playlists are a great way to boost your streams and grow your audience as an artist.

It is possible for you as an artist to receive many streams if your music is considered by the Spotify algorithm, particularly if you’re a talented artist in a less popular genre.

Spotify algorithm will see your tracks or albums If they have these conditions.

Spotify Web Player Library

Spotify library is one of the great opportunities that Spotify provides for their free and premium users. Spotify categorizes all of your playlists and podcasts, which you published or liked or followed, audiobooks, and artists’ pages and albums of your desired artists which you liked them, in five sections:

Spotify Web Player Playlist Shuffle

Suppose you created a list of favorite songs for yourself in a playlist, for example, more than 100 songs, and you listen to this playlist each time.
In that case, you may not be able to finish this list, and the songs at the end of your queue rarely play, and every time you listen to the songs at the beginning of the queue. To listen to all of your songs in the playlist list, you might try to activate shuffle mode in order to have the chance to listen to all of the songs on the playlist, but after a while, you may encounter this problem: Spotify plays the same songs in shuffle mode over and over again.
In this mode, the songs stay mostly the same.
That’s why I wanted to know why some people say that.
According to some people, Spotify plays songs based on their popularity among other people, while others believe that Spotify plays songs based on your taste and the songs that you listen to more often.
The only reliable source I found for answering this question was Spotify’s blog post from 2014. This policy may change during these years, so I cannot guarantee it adheres to 100 % right now.

According to this article, When you hit shuffle:

As you can see, songs from an artist are nicely spread out, and it looks pretty random to the human eye. Let’s look in more detail at how the algorithm works.

Spotify Web Player Playlist Shuffle algorithm
Spotify Web Player Playlist Shuffle algorithm

At first, the Spotify algorithm starts to calculate each artist has how many songs and places his songs in one line; then evenly, Spotify distributes the songs in the list; for example, if you have songs from one artist in the playlist, Spotify should place them with the one-fourth lengths of the playlist, but Spotify ( in order to make the final order appear more random) will place them in 20% to 30% of playlist distance.

Then Spotify places the first song of each artist at a random distance from the first song in the queue.
In the last step, Spotify places all the songs of that artist in the queue at an equal distance, and the same is done for the other artists on the playlist as well.

All in all, the algorithm is very simple, and it can be implemented in just a couple of lines. It’s also very fast and produces decent results.

How to Shuffle Spotify Playlist Web Player

Premium users can listen to playlists with or without shuffling, for shuffling music on Spotify you should follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Now Playing bar at the bottom of the screen or open any of your playlists.
  2. At the bottom of your Spotify screen, look for the shuffle symbol and tap or click it.
Shuffle icon shuffle is off – tracks play in order
Shuffle-active shuffle is on – tracks play in randomized order

Note: On tablet, tap the album artwork in the side menu.

Free Users

If you’re on our free service, shuffle mode is always on, except on certain Spotify playlists such as those made for you.

How to Fix Spotify’s Imperfect Shuffling

Spotify shuffle is not truly random, and we probably don’t want it to be truly random, but the Spotify algorithm could not be doing better, and people don’t like it either.
So what can we do to solve this problem? Some people believe that the user of Spotify asks the company to add two modes for shuffling:

But now you may can solve this problem by changing the the first song of your playlist and clicking on the shuffle mode again.
By this trick you maybe can solve this problem for yourself and Spotify does not play the same songs in shuffle mode over and over again for you.

Spotify Web Player Queue

When you are listening to your favorite music on Spotify, you may also find new songs from your favorite singers on Spotify and wish to save them and listen to them later.
The songs can be saved in a playlist or use Spotify’s Queue feature.

The Spotify queue is a list that Spotify provides for you to listen to the songs on it while your current song finish. For you as Spotify user, there is this chance to add, remove or rearrange the songs on your queue list. In this part I want to answer your questions about this issue.

What’s the Difference Between a Playlist and a Queue?

Spotify playlist and queue are two options that available in Spotify app and as a user the first question that you may ask yourself is about the difference between them and why you should use Spotify queue when you have a playlist option on Spotify. In this part I want to share the results of my research about this question:

When you add a song to the Spotify queue, that song will be added to a list and they will play immediately after your current song is finish. In this case, you don’t need to modify the songs on your list, and you can be sure that the next song you hear is the song that you have in your queue list. The interesting point about Spotify queue is, you can put a complete playlist or album in a queue and after that the first seven songs of that album or playlist will be added to the queue.
The other thing that I found about Spotify queue is the songs that you have in your Spotify queue is not permanent and after listening to them all songs will be removed from queue list automatically.
But in the other side Spotify playlists allows you to add as many songs as you want and listen to them in order or shuffle mode, whenever you want.

Can I Queue Podcast on Spotify?

If you love to listen to podcasts like me, you may want to add new podcasts that you see to the queue, so that you can listen to those new podcasts immediately after you finish the songs or podcasts you are listening to them.
Spotify has seen your need and responded positively to it, and you can add your desired podcasts to the queue and enjoy listening to them, just like songs and albums.

How Many Songs Can You Queue on Spotify

Spotify Web Player Bitrate

Bit rate refers to the output quantity of information units in digital multimedia formats in relation to one data quantity at a time, usually measured as a amount of information per second.
Bit rate is abbreviated as bit/s or bps in response to technological advances, more and more multiples are common depending on the topic, ranging from kbit/s (1,000 bits/second) to Mbit/s (1,000,000 bits/second) to Gbit/s (1,000,000,000 bits/second). ). You should remember, bite rate is distinct from other measurements of video quality such as frame rate, resolution or video format.
Bitrate has two different types:

If you are using Spotify app, the audio quality changes depending on your network connection speed, from 24 to 320 kbps.

Podcast quality is approximately 96kbit/s on all devices, except for the web player, where it is 128kbit/s. The podcast quality will decrease to approximately 24kbit/s if you change the audio quality to low on mobile/tablet.

Spotify’s music format is ACC, or Advanced audio coding.
ACC is a high-quality format that is much better than MP3.
The ACC attempts to compress the music in two ways that are intended to be imperceptible to listeners.

Most audiophiles would agree that, if you are going to use a lossy format, then ACC 256kbps is a very good choice.

What Audio Quality is Spotify Web Player?

Spotify Web Player users enjoy lower quality music than Spotify App users or Spotify players users. However, Spotify has given more points here to its premium users, who can listen to higher-quality music on the Spotify web player compared to regular users.

2- If you like to increase the quality of your desired songs more, you need to buy premium account and by premium account you can increase the songs’ bitrate to :

How Do I Make My Spotify Web Player Better Quality

Spotify Web Player Play Music

Before I talk about playing songs on Spotify and Spotify player devices, which we can listen to through them, it is better to look at the common questions that most of you may have about Spotify. Questions such as:

Why is Spotify So Popular?

Spotify like apple music, Amazon and Tidal is one of the popular music streaming platforms in the world and many music lovers in the world have this app in their smart phones, but you may want to know why this platform is so popular and this popularity has increased every year ( the number of free and paid subscribers reached more than 345 million in 2020, a dramatic increase from 15 million in 2012)

In this part I want to share the reasons that I collected to answer this question:

Wide Selection of Music: Spotify has many songs, albums, and artists from various genres and decades. This makes it easy for users to find and listen to the music they love and discover new music.

User-Friendly Interface: Spotify has a simple and intuitive interface that makes it easy for users to find and play music. The app is available on many devices, including smartphones, tablets, and computers, making it convenient to use.

Personalized Recommendations: Spotify uses algorithms to recommend music to users based on their listening history and preferences. This helps users discover new music they might enjoy and keeps them engaged with the service.

Affordable Subscription Options: Spotify offers both free and paid subscription options. The free version includes ads and some limitations, but users can upgrade to a premium account for ad-free listening and other perks. This makes it accessible to a wide range of users.

Social Features: Spotify has social features that allow users to share their music and playlists with friends and see what their friends are listening to. This helps users discover new music and keeps them connected with their friends.

Who Uses Spotify the Most?

Spotify was stablished in 2011 by Daniel Ek, who had previously been Chief Technology Officer of Stardoll, and entrepreneur Martin Lorentzon and the number of active free and premium subscribers in 2023 reach to 500 million users, including 205 million subscribers in more than 180 markets all around the world.
If you want to know more about the geographical distribution, and the age range of people who use this platform more I should say,
Spotify is more popular in urban areas because its user for using Spotify need stable internet connection, and people in North and South America, Europe, and Asian countries like South Korea, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and the Philippines use Spotify more compare to other parts of the world.
According to statistic, the most user of Spotify are between 18 to 34 years old (This is likely because this age group is most likely to use streaming services and is more likely to have disposable income to pay for a premium subscription.)

Are Spotify Songs Better Than MP3 Files?

For people who listen to music a lot, the MP3 was one of the most favorable formats that many people chose to save their desired music on their device. Still, when Spotify started its service, music lovers found this chance to listen to their desired music without saving them on their devices.

But today, some people ask whether listening to music in MP3 format is better or listening to music with Spotify. Here I want to compare these two options.

Convenience: With the Spotify platform, you can easily have access to the huge repository of Spotify without needing to download them and saving in your device if you have access to the internet.

Quality: The quality of the music which you listen to them is much higher than the MP3 files.

Selection: From the Spotify repository, you can access millions of songs, albums, and artists from various genres and decades.

Cost: Spotify has two different kinds of accounts (Free and Premium); when you choose a free account, you can not download your desired songs, but you can listen to your desired music when you have access to the internet, but by premium account, you can download your desired songs easily in high quality, but you should pay a small amount of money every month.

On the other hand, when you choose mp3 files, you can purchase them one time and listen to them forever and copy and paste them into any device that you have, so maybe choosing an MP3 format could be more cost-effective compared to using Spotify’s premium plan for you.

Whether Spotify or MP3 is “better” depends on your individual needs and preferences. Some people prefer the convenience and selection of Spotify, while others prefer the flexibility and cost-effectiveness of MP3 files.

How Do I Add Music From Spotify to The Web Player?

If you like to add any music to your Spotify web library songs from Spotify repository, you should follow these steps:

1- At first you need to open Spotify web player in your browser and login to your account.
2- The second step is searching in the Spotify repository and find your desired songs through search bar or through the playlists which you have created before or other users’ playlists.
3- Now you can add that song to your desired playlist by clicking on 3 dots next to the song or album or playlist and then click on the “Add to Playlists” item.
4- Now you can have these songs or playlists from any device that you choose to login to your Spotify account.

Can You Listen Offline on Spotify Web Player?

If you listen to music a lot, you may like to listen to music anywhere you are regardless that you are in a location that you have a access to internet or not.
for this group of people listening to music offline can be a very good option but If you like to listen to music offline I should mention this point that according to Spotify blog unfortunately you can not listen to your desired music offline by using Spotify web player.

For downloading and listening to your desired music offline you need to have Spotify premium account and then you need to login to your account according by Spotify mobile or desktop app and then find your desired song from Spotify repository and download, after downloading that you can listen to offline easily.

Can You Use Spotify Web Player Without Premium

Spotify web is one of the valuable features that Spotify provides for its users. It not only provides this chance for you to use Spotify without having the Spotify app on your device, but also you can have access to a vast number of songs and podcasts that Spotify save in its repository.
As we mentioned before, you can use Spotify web with your free account, but premium subscribers have access to more options when they are using Spotify web.
For example, they can listen to their desired songs and podcasts with higher quality. You can connect your account to Spotify players like smart-watches and Mighty and smart speakers like Google, Amazon, echo and Sonos speakers.

Dose Spotify Web Player Normalize Music

Audio normalization is adding a constant amount of gain to a recording to bring the amplitude of the recording up to a target level. In this process, the audio’s signal-to-noise ratio and relative dynamics remain unchanged because the same gain is applied to the entire recording.

Normalizing audio entails changing its overall volume to reach a target volume by a fixed amount.
In contrast to compression, it changes volume over time in varying amounts.
Compared to compression, it does not affect dynamics and typically only changes the volume of the sound.
When Spotify users use the app, audio is played at various volume levels, and by normalization, they can experience more balanced between soft and loud songs.

If you like to enable or disable audio normalization in Spotify Web Player you should follow these steps:

1- At firs you should log in to your Spotify account.

2- After you logged in to your account, you should click on the “Settings” icon in the bottom right corner of the screen.

6 Disadvantages of Spotify Web Player Compare to Desktop App:

Earlier we only talked about the interesting features we can do on the web player. As I was searching about the web player, I found out that there are some features that we are not able to do using the Spotify web player which I decided to share some of them here:

Friend activity

One of the features you can use on the Spotify desktop app is the friend activity. You can see what your friends are listening to or listened to on Spotify recently. This feature helps you to find new music on Spotify and get familiar with your friends’ music tastes. But the problem is that you cannot see the friend activity on the web player. I could not find any news about adding this feature to the Spoify web player, but I hope that Spotify will make this interesting feature available on Spotify web player soon.

Settings

The other thing that you cannot have access to on the Spotify web player is settings. In Spotify’s settings section, you can manage lots of things such as music quality, language, explicit content, and some other things, though you are not able to manage these features and options with Spotify web player.

Secret Session

You already know that your friends on Spotify can see what you are listening to, as you can do that too. You may think that what can I do if I do not want my friends to find out about my music taste or what podcast I am listening to. The answer is simple. You can switch on the secret session or private session on your Spotify app. But unfortunately, Spotify has not made this feature available on the Spotify web player yet.

Lower Bitrate Compare to Desktop App

The Web Player streams audio files at a lower bitrate than the desktop app.
